Personal Practice

My personal practice consists of a self investigation into the objects that surround me and what they can reveal to me beyond their face value. This is done through an inquisitive look into the lists, notes and haphazard research I make day to day.

Below area few of my most recent projects.

The Jackets project is an investigation into 3 jackets, my jacket which I inherited from my Father, My Fathers jacket and my Grandfathers jacket. It is an attempt in understanding how we can associate people with objects and how an object changing hands can affect that identity. It further plays on the idea of enhancing the worth of an object beyond our associated understanding. Once we know the story and the history with the relationship to an object it adapts the known value.

As an attempt in moving forward into investigating my relationship with objects, I couldn’t help but reconsider the idea of how the contents of our pockets may one day tell people who we were and what we were interested in. Similarly to how we identify Romans by the contents of their pockets when they died. Each item in our pocket tells a story, wether that’s a certain pen you always carry or if you’ve got a smashed iPhone you nurse to health each day. The idea that even something as overlooked as the paraphernalia we carry can be intimate and revealing was interesting to me.

This project is an attempt at coming to terms with the disposal of items that have served me. How can we memorialise and recognise the service and a life of an object as to avoid hoarding piles of broken converse?
